Theme: The main theme within this movie is demons and possession. As the child is possessed by a demon and haunts the family.
Sub-Genre: Supernatural
Characters: At the beginning of the trailer the family are represented as a happy middle class family, we see this by the way Josh (the dad) is playing with his son. Renai (the mum) is dressed in casualwear this could connote that she’s a typical housewife. There is also the happy son in the flashback of the first movie Dalton. This is typically the formula of a nuclear family. The movie follows the horror convention this is because it’s normally the big happy, innocent families that terrible things happen to, in supernatural films.
Pacing: The trailer is quite slow to start off with but as things start to get more and more freaky the faster the pace of the trailer seems to get.
Camerawork: There are a lot of camera angles that are shown within this horror trailer these include close up, medium close up, establishing shot, and wide angle shot. The trailer starts with an establishing shot of the house this connotes it’s a major location in the film.
Editing and post-production (special effect): in this trailer fast cuts were used very heavily, the cuts started to speed up as we got deeper into the trailer this allowed tension to build up, and to keep the audience engaged in the storyline. This allowed them to only show parts of the movie rather than revealing a lot about the movie.
Sound: The trailer starts off with a very happy score in the flashback when the family was happy this goes well as it’s a contrast in comparison to the rest of the trailer. Suddenly silence is used to a spooky effect about 35 seconds into the trailer. You can then hear Foley sound of a child’s walker playing music with no baby in it. The silence is then broken by Foley sound of a door slamming by itself this is then followed by the mother screaming, and a scary score starts to play. This is then played throughout the rest of the trailer. For a while you can also hear whispering which adds to the horror effect.
Location: The movie is set in a large house owned by a happy family. With a Husband, Wife and Child.

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE(ABI)
Title: Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Year of release: 2013
Genre/sub-genre: Slasher/Thriller
Production/financing Company: Leatherface Productions, Lionsgate, Mainline Pictures
Principle Cast: Alexandra Daddario, Dan Yeager, Tremaine 'Trey Songz' Neverson, Scott Eastwood, Tania Raymonde, Shaun Sipos, Keram Malicki-Sánchez
Films origin/Info: This film is apart of Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise. It is a franchise consisting of seven
slasher films, comics, and a video game adaptation of the original film. The
franchise focuses on Leatherface, and his family.
Synopsis: After the first massacre in 1974, the townspeople suspected that the Sawyer family were responsible. A vigilante mob of enraged locals surrounded the Sawyer house, burning it to the ground and killing every last member of the family. Decades later a young woman named Heather learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from her grandmother. She decides to bring her friends along on the road trip to investigate her inheritance. On arrival she uncovers she has inherited a mansion but is yet to uncover the terrors that lurk in the basement below it
Genre: The subgenre for this film which is thriller/ slasher can be easily noticed while watching the trailer. This is because throughout the trailer we are able to see a group of people looking frightened and killed off by a masked killer. In most slasher/thriller films such as Nightmare on Elms Street and Silent we tend to see people getting killed by someone wearing a mask as well as having an iconic killing prop. In this trailers case is the chainsaw leatherface uses.
Theme: Fear is the main theme I noticed in this trailer. This is because there is always a medium/close up shot of the characters looking frightened also shots of them running away helps add to the factor of them being scared and looking for a way to escape from the villain.
Location: The main location of this trailer is the house which the main character inherited from her grandmother and most of the scenes are of the background of the basement where the villain sets up and kills people. This portrays that there is something bad in the house and makes the audience anxious as to who the killer maybe and why he is located atthe bottom of the house.
Narrative: The narrative in this trailer is in linear order. This enable the audience to understand a little bit about what the film is about and intrigues them to watching the full film as the trailer doesn’t give too much away.
Characters: The character we find out about in this trailer is (Alexandra Daddario) who we find out is the inherited owner of the house also that she knew nothing about the grandmother who gave her the house. We also find out that the group of people she is with are her friends because of the way they are all interacting with each other. We are told nothing of the masked killer which makes the audience anxious to know why he is killing the group of people.
Voice over: There isn’t any voiceover in this trailer. There is mostly dialogue between the characters only during the first half of the trailer.
Pacing: During the beginning scene of the equilibrium I can see that the pacing of the trailer is quite slow this connotes the characters are living a normal life. On the other during the disequilibrium in the trailer we can see the pacing of the trailer has quickened connoting that danger they are in.
On-screen graphics/captions: The captions used in this movie are only seen when the pacing of it quickens. This conveys that it is trying to show the audience a sort of secret quickly so that no one knows about it. These captions are what are letting the audience know that something like this has happened before. All this adds to what makes the audience want to watch the film. “In 1979 a legend was born this January it has happened before and it’s happening again”
Editing& post production: When the narrative starts to build up we can see that a lot of transition of fading used in the trailer. This helps to keep the audience guessing as they can only see a glimpse of some scenes .Quick cuts are used in the trailer; this teases the audience, and builds up tension. Cross cutting techniques are also used in the trailer
Music &other sound effects: A non-diegetic SFX is used constantly with the revving of the chainsaw this adds tension to the trailer and keeps the audience interested as the iconic prop name is in the title of the movie.
Camerawork: A high angle shot of the car approaching the house emphasises on how big the house is. The camera angles used when the villain is introduced are close up of an object, hand, and needle and of his face when he puts the mask on. This represents that in the trailer they do not want to give away who the villain is at all in order to keep the audience interested in watching the film. Medium/close up shot of the characters is constantly used to show that they are scared and unaware of what the villain will do next.

[REC]SARAH
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGJ_jPKOj1c
Year of release: 2007
Director: Jaume Balagueró
Distributor: Filmax International
Film Information
[REC] is the first in a series of four zombie horror movies. This particular edition is set in Spanish, with the dialogue also in Spanish. Due to the success of the first instalment in the series, three more followed, in different languages. None of these are in English.
Synopsis
Ángela Vidal (Manuela Velasco) is a reporter fronting a documentary, While You’re Asleep, on a night shift in one of Barcelona’s fire stations. She is accompanied by her cameraman Pablo. The fire crew receive a call about an old woman trapped in her flat. When they reach the block, Ángela and Pablo film the police breaking down the door. The woman becomes extremely aggressive and bites one of the policemen. The terrified residents gather in the entrance hall and as the police and military seal off the building amid suspicions some sort of virus had taken hold of her. A firefighter who stayed in the old woman's apartment is bitten and falls through the stairwell to the lobby floor. The camera crew, remaining firefighter and second policeman go upstairs again to investigate and are attacked. The officer shoots the old woman. Angela, Pablo, the residents and other surviving officers who entered the building remains trapped inside the building with the residents and continue recording in spite of the policeman's pressure to stop recording. Ángela interviews people throughout the terrible ordeal and insists they carry on recording so they could have evidence of what happened when they escape.
Mise-en-scene
It is a while before the villains are identified but their presence is made known through faint, haunting sounds that echo throughout the block. Their appearance is typical of those in zombie films: unkempt and bloodied; torn, ragged and dirty clothes; lack of shoes; missing teeth and injuries.
Particularly after the apartment block is sealed off, things seem very mysterious, mostly due to the darkened lighting, but also the silence, despite the fact there are more than a dozen people present in the building. The many officers and civil servants in uniform bring a sense of urgency and emergency, since people wearing these types of uniforms typically work in public emergency services. No daylight is visible after the block is sealed off, essentially
confirming the fact that the group are trapped and in inevitable danger.
Sound
Only non-diegetic sound is used, most likely because of the nature and genre of the film. Many foley sounds are used throughout, e.g. the sound of a TV
switching channels, people speaking through radios and dialling and ringing sounds from a telephone. This gives a sense of danger, urgency, unpredictability and realism which keeps the viewer in suspense throughout as events seem intermittent. There is no music used anywhere in the trailer but as it reaches the climax an ambient tonal hum becomes more and more prominent. This is only present when text is shown in between footage. This creates a feeling of atmosphere and tension, keeping the viewer on edge. Sounds speak for themselves – although here are many sounds featured throughout the trailer, the piercing, pronounced screams of the zombies when they claim their victims are those that make the boldest statement.
Lighting
At the beginning, although it is night-time there is mostly high-key lighting, connoting that all is as normal, in comparison to the low-key lighting that takes over as the trailer moves into the core parts of the film when the main characters are trapped in the apartment block with the zombies. This suggests that danger and mystery lies ahead.
