Location Recce is one of the key elements within the making of any film. It is extremely important in the pre-filming as it allows the crew to view / visit many different location in order to find some that may be suitable for in the shooting stage. It also give us the opportunity to access necessary faculties and gives an insight to any potential error with regards to lighting or sound. Since we decided as a group we would be be shooting in College Abi and Belkis decided to tour the college in search of locations which will be suitable for our story line.
All the shots that will be used in our trailer will be taken in various locations at Christ The King College
Our Final Choosen Location are:
Our Final Choosen Location are:
- The Entrance
- The Music Room
- The Playground
- The Corridor
- The Toilet/ Locker room
- The Storage
Location One: The entrance of Christ the King College
We felt that this location, the entrance to Christ the King College is extremely important because it introduces the audience to where the film is set. We decided to use a single shot in this location which is an establishing shot so the audience is able to get a clear view of the college.
Inspiration: Twilight shows a good establishing shot we believe because from this moment if the audience did not know they will they are in a school as one of the first things they are able to see is the name of the school in bold. This is something we will be inputting in our trailer to help show the overall setting of the teaser trailer.
Location Two: Music Room
The second location used in the teaser trailer will be of a classroom who have just finished watching a horror film which may make the audience intrigued as to why the film my be finishing. This location shows a typical day in the classroom for Johnny; he gets picked on and laughed at by the other pupils.
Lighting: For this scene we will be needing extra lights as we noticed that there inst enough natural light coming into the room. hence would lower the quality of our trailer. Props: We will also be using the camera and tripod as this is will allow us to zoom out without any sudden jerking movements. Shots: The shots that will be used would be wide shots as we will need to see everyone in the class. however for the first shot the camera will be behind the class watching and for the next in front mainly focusing of johnny. which allows us to see that we are in a classroom location. Space: There is enough space for the crew, cast props and lighting as this is the scene where everyone will be needed to get involved in some way. |
Inspiration: Carrie inspired us to use a classroom for the location of these shots because we are able to get a clear view that Carrie is a character that gets picked on by nearly everyone in the classroom. We also have the sniggers and laughter of the other students in there which just allows the audience to know she gets picked on. This is a good location and should be used especially because our film is based on bullying/revenge and to show the audience this a classroom teaching scene is needed.
Location Three: Playground
This location we believe is quite important as we think it will show very well the extent of how the bullying affected the antagonist character before he decided to do something about it. This is a cross cutting scene where Johnny is talking to his friends then without any awareness gets punched by a member of the bullies and also them laughing.
Lighting: We will no be needing any extra light as we have plenty of natural sunlight. Shots: We will be taking many different shots from many angles to help us portray our story clearly some include a low angle shot/ high angle to show the different levels of class in school. Prop: The props we need in this location is the camera and the tripod. Space: There is plenty of space to fit the cast crew and some extras whom we need in the background. |
Location Four: R.E Corridor
This is one of the scene that cross-cuts to another location which is the playground. Here we see the bullies planning to beat up johnny. we chose this location again because it was inside the building and in a closed place, somehow secretive as the bullies will be getting up to no good. This location is also the one that cross cuts in with the playground scene.
Lighting: We also have no need for any extra lighting as the corridor is brightly light through natural sun light and extra lighting will make no difference. Props: We will only be using the camera as the prop in this location. Shots: There is going to be a wide/long shot of the group of bullies talking then there will be a long shot of the bullies feet running. Space: This corridor is quite narrow therefore i think we will only be able to use the cast who are needed in the shot as well as the camera person and the camera is the only prop that will fit the space |
Inspiration: The film that inspired us to use this location was The Shining. While watching the film we realised that having a corridor may be quite effective in adding to our teaser trailers scare factor as it is quite long and narrow which makes it seem like its never ending. The turning of the corner is also quite effective in this film as the first time audience will not know what to expect after a long quite shot of a boy walking through the corridor. We will be incorporating the way they the boy turned the corner into our trailer however or shot will be of the feet running as the audience will know know what to expect after seeing that.

Location Five: Toilet/ Locker Room
The last location is the toilet/ changing room. In this scene we see a close up of one of the bullies looking drectly into the mirror and washing his hands. However theres a sudden jump to it when he realises that the antagonist is inside the toilet as well by grabbing him from behind.
Lighting: We are also able to used the normal lighting that the toilet has because it is bright enough for us to for us to get the right light exposure for these shots. Props: The props that will be used in this scence is the camera and tripod in order to get a straight and steady shot of what happens. Shots: We will be taking a medium close up shot of the victim while he washes his hands then a close up shot of him getting grabbed. Space: There is lots of space in this location to fit the whole crew and cast aswell as any props we need |
Inspiration: The film that inspired us to include this location as part of our teaser trailer is the The Hole. While watching this we felt like it is a very effective location because, this is a place people go into quite often for various reasons and it is quite a closed place so not everyone will be aware of the things that goes on in there. We was inspired to have our victim washing his hands through this film also; but instead of having the victim move round like this existing film does we have him in the same spot getting attacked from behind, the victim as well as the target audience are unaware of what may happen and maybe have a sudden jump when they see this.
Location Six: Attic /Cupboard
This shot was originally meant to be shot in the bathroom but we couldn't do that due to the layout of the bathroom and on the day of filming we finally realised it wont be possible. We decided on using a boiler room and pretend it was an attic because in existing horror films we found that an attic is mostly used to hide things that people do not want to be seen.
Lighting:This location was also perfect for our trailer because it was dark with no lighting; this meant we would be able to position and decide how much lighting we wanted in the shots. We used the small lighting box which gave minimum light which was enough for us to see what was going on. Prop: The only prop needed in these shot was the camera because we wanted the camera person has no need to move the camera from the position she started with as well as the the lighting box to give sufficient light. Shots: For the two shots we will be taking a close up of the victims face getting cut and another dead victim dragged into the store by the killer using a long shot Space: There is enough space to fit the camera person and all the characters that need to be in the shots as well as the props |
Inspiration: The trailer that i was very much inspired by for the dragging shot is The Pact. This is because i think its a very effective way to create tension in a film as the audience will be unaware of whats happening or even what will happen to the person that is being dragged off.
